Boxing: Anderson knows the score

EDINBURGH boxer Kenny Anderson is under no illusions about the importance of his bout at the St Andrew's Sporting Club in Glasgow tonight.

The super-middleweight contender takes on Patrick Mendy ahead of a proposed British title eliminator against Liverpool's Carl Dilks.

"I want a British title eliminator with Dilks so I must win tonight."

And Anderson's manager Barry McGuigan was full of confidence. He said: "Anderson is in the best pre-fight shape of his career – he's been pulverising sparring partners and I fully expect victory."

• LEITH VICTORIA heavyweight Steve Simmons beat Indian opponent Mendeep Singh 6-1 at the Commonwealth Federation games in Delhi yesterday. He will now take on Kenyan Ali Ajowi, who he outpointed when the pair clashed in the semi-finals of the World championships.
