Boxing: Amid the chaos, Bronx debut show is a success

Despite the bomb scare and a drunken ringside brawl involving several spectators as reported in Monday's Evening News, the first-ever public show by the Bronx club at Tranent's Loch Centre proved a success.

It was standing room only as Bronx light-heavyweight Steven Lindsay claimed a deserved points win over Alloa's Laurence Meldrum in a tough tussle - a win that brought Lindsay the "Best Bronx Boxer" trophy.

Several other Bronx boxers posted good wins against strong opposition including light-flyweight Shaun Cunningham who outscored Aberdonian Eddie Copeland.

Craigmillar's Scottish national senior champion, Jason Easton, had to pull out all the stops to beat Aberdeen-based Polish Marek Laskovski, the national 64kg champion, in a hard-earned points win. Best supporting Craigmillar boxer was another smart light-welterweight, John Keenan, who beat Livingston's Tom Dickson with some good left jabbing work.

Bronx light-welterweight Cameron Knox lost narrowly to Aberdeen-based Russian Jevsti Artyom in a keenly contested bout.
