Bowls: West Lothian stage dramatic comeback

IN a repeat of last year's Hamilton Trophy title decider, defending champions West Lothian turned in a battling performance over the closing stages of their opening Scottish Cities & Counties match to beat East Lothian. They trailed by 20 shots but stormed back to win 124-100.

That 24-shot victory only takes them to second place in the East Section after Borders turned in the highest winning margin of the day, crushing West Fife 152-97. At the other extreme, Midlothian pipped Edinburgh & Leith 119-118.

In the West Section, Stirling West went top with a 143-101 win over Lanark.

In the North, Angus lead after a 138-107 win over Bon Accord, while Ayr top the South Section following their 144-97 success over Dumbarton East.
