Bowls: Triples win gives Scots third gold

It WAS another golden day for Scotland at the world outdoor championships in Australia.

David Peacock, Darren Burnett and Graeme Archer chalked up a well-deserved 13-12 triples win against the host nation, with the scoreline not reflecting the fact that the Aussies only scored on five ends of the 15-end match.

It is the third time in succession that the Scots have taken this title, with Peacock involved in all three podium finishes, winning for the first time in 2004 at Ayr followed by a win in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2008.

Later, the emotional Dalkeith bowler said: “Winning this title once was brilliant, twice was just a dream but to win it for a third time and beat the Aussies on their home patch is simply awesome.

“We’ve had a great team spirit in the game and to come away with gold in the men’s pairs and women’s fours along with this is testament to that. It’s been a great all-round effort from every-one including our coach and managers.

“The travelling support has also been awesome and they certainly helped us over the finishing line!”
