Bowls: Midlothian's Peacock in top form

Midlothian strengthened their position at the top of the indoor bowls Premier League Section B table with a spectacular 59-shot victory over Aberdeen when the teams clashed in a catch-up fixture at Dalkeith.

It was Midlothian's seventh win in eight games and their 111-52 success increases the pressure on East Lothian - their chief rivals - but now face a gap of four points although the Garden County have a game in hand.

The highlight of Midlothian's win was a magnificent 45-shot triumph for the rink skipped by Billy Peacock, who produced an outstanding performance.

Peacock gave early signals of something special when he skipped Ronnie Duncan, Andrew Kelly and Lindsay Plenderleith into a 16-0 lead with a start of 3, 4, 3, 1, 5. He then conjured up a magnificent 7 and a super 6 then followed on with counts of 2, 2, 4, 1, 2 1, 3, 2, on his way to a 49-5 win over D Nicholson.

Meanwhile, Peacock's younger sibling struggled to build on an opening 5 and after 15 ends was 19-15 in arrears but he responded with a spell of 3, 2, 1, 3 to cross 24-19 and skipped Robert Campbell, Robert Trench and Rankin to a 25-20 win over K Pirie.

Graeme Archer was another star in fine form and having skipped Martin Wylie, Robert Crawford and AJ Knight into a commanding 15-2 lead after 11 ends he beat S Thomson 20-10.

Colin Walker found life more difficult and was against the collar at 16-10 down after 15 ends but a revival saw him skip Steven Currie, David Salkeld and Graham Walker to a 17-17 peel with R Henry.

Midlothian dominated all three of the seven-end sections, winning them 44-12, 35-27, 32-13.
