Bowls: Marshall into second round

Alex MARSHALL, who holds the record of five World Indoor Bowls singles titles, enjoyed a comfortable 9-4, 11-3 first round win against Tyneside's Glenn Skipp in this year's event at Great Yarmouth.

Marshall, 43, said: "It was great to win that first match, articularly with the way I played and if I can keep that form for my next match then I'll be very happy.

"The twenty points I gained from that round will be vital in keeping me in the top sixteen next season."

In yesterday's other matches, seeds Andy Thomson and Mark Royal both won through, but Ian Bond seeded No.?7, was the third seed to crash out, losing 6-6, 8-5 to English qualifier Andy Ware.
