Bowls: Forrest's high five takes her into the record books

Teviotdale's Julie Forrest will go into the record books as the first five-time winner of the Taylor Bowls national singles title and the first to win the title three times in a row.

In yesterday's finals at Aberdeen, the 42-year old was made to battle for 21 ends by Lorna Cameron, from Whiteinch, before a single on the 21st saw her claim a 21-13 victory. The previous day, she proved too strong for Arbroath's Eleanor Anderson, winning 21-9, while Cameron beat Blantyre's Caroline Brown 21-20.

The men's principal singles title went to Lanarkshire's Robert Grant. He came back from 18-14 down to beat Cowal's Craig Bence 21-19 in the semis and in the final against Midlothian's Colin Walker, secured a 21-20 victory. Walker beat WIBC World junior champion Steven Allan 21-17 in his semi-final.

Becky Campbell, of Alloa, beat Ardrossan's defending champion Michelle Cooper 21-17 in the women's under-25 event, and the men's under-25 title went to West Lothian's Calum Logan, who led all the way against Dumbarton's Graeme Sloan, taking the match 21-14.

Prestwick and Falkirk took the honours in the two-bowl pairs. The Ayrshire duo of Junior Cole and Robert Rae beat Garioch's Colin Banks and Bruce Middleton 5-4, 4-8, 8-5. In the women's final, Falkirk pair Jane Brooksby and Vikki Leishman beat West of Scotland's Angela Boyle and Jan Woodley 6-5, 8-6.
