Bowls: Archer and Cooper through to knockout

Scotland’s Graeme Archer and Michelle Cooper have both qualified for the knockout stages of the World Cup Indoor Singles Championship in Australia.

With one round remaining, Archer has already secured a second place finish in his group, four points behind defending champion Jeremy Henry from Australia and two points ahead of Hong Kong’s Ken Chan.

After two defeats earlier in the week, Archer continued his great run yesterday, beating Abdul Kalim from Fiji 13-4, 8-5 followed by a 19-2, 18-2 win over Sri Lanka’s Sasul Ramanyake to make it six wins on the trot.

Cooper, 26, had also secured her quarter final berth with a game in hand and yesterday wrapped up her section in second place after a 9-8, 9-8 win over Malaysian Nur Fidrah Nor.

Cooper now faces a quarter-final match against Canadian Kelly McKerihen, with the winner meeting defending champion Alison Merrien from Guernsey, who won the other section.
