Boss buoyed as recruits put Peni to paper

CRAIG MEIKLE is confident Penicuik have assembled a squad capable of finishing in the top half of the table in the ACA Sports East Premier League this season.

Bonnyrigg duo Mark Robertson and Charlie Brigain have been added to the ranks over the summer, as have ex-Linlithgow left-back Mike McDermott and former Hibs man Paul Riley, who is also helping out co- managers Meikle and Brian Ryrie in a coaching capacity.

With Richard Campbell and Steven Robertson on board as well, the Penicuik management team are happy with the tools at their disposal ahead of a tough start that sees them face Glenrothes, Arniston and Whitburn in the opening few games.

"I'm not going to say we can win the league but I am certainly confident we can challenge in the top half of the table this season rather than being in the bottom half again.

"I think we've made some good signings, although Mark Robertson may be struggling for tomorrow's game against Glenrothes as he took a heavy ankle knock against Tranent.

"We signed Charlie Brigain on Monday so he's a good late addition to the squad and, if we can get off to a good start, that would stand us in good stead."
