Borussia Monchengladbach 5-2 Aberdeen: German referee pushes Dons' grief to the max

Aberdeen striker Josh Magennis believes his side can be excused this result because they had one of the worst referees he has ever seen.

The Pittodrie side tasted a second defeat in their tour of Germany despite Magennis netting a superb 45-yard goal and a late strike from Peter Pawlett.

However, German referee Max Ebbels did the Dons no favours in awarding a penalty against Andrew Considine for holding in the box when no Borussia player complained, giving a Borussia goal that looked yards offside, and Rob Milsom's dismissal for a second booking in injury time.

Dons manager Craig Brown is hopeful Milsom will not be suspended for the opening SPL game of the season.

Magennis said: "It was one of the worst referees I have ever had in my life. I couldn't actually believe he sent Rob off. I thought it was just a free kick."

Brown said: "It's usually about five shots per goal, but in their case it was a shot per goal. Every time they shot, they scored."
