Boruc to join Fiorentina if he passes fit

ARTUR BORUC'S colourful Celtic career will officially come to an end today as long as the results of his medical at Fiorentina are positive.

Celtic yesterday accepted a reported 1.7million bid from the Serie A club for the goalkeeper, who had one year left on his Parkhead contract.

The Italians announced on their official website last night that the transfer would be completed after the medical results were confirmed. Boruc had set off with the rest of his team-mates as Celtic embarked on a pre-season tour of North America but the Pole was diverted at London as Fiorentina stepped up their interest. The controversial player made more than 200 appearances for the club after arriving from Legia Warsaw in 2005.

Boruc enjoyed hero status among the Celtic support and his form sparked interest from the likes of AC Milan. His eventful spell at Parkhead has also included a breach of the peace caution from Strathclyde Police after making gestures towards Rangers fans in 2006, in just one of several occasions his behaviour infuriated Celtic's Old Firm rivals. The imminent departure of Boruc leaves compatriot Lukasz Zaluska as Neil Lennon's first-choice goalkeeper.

American Dominic Cervi will provide back-up as Celtic prepare for friendlies against Philadelphia Union, Manchester United, Seattle Sounders and Sporting Lisbon.

Wales midfielder Joe Ledley will also feature in the tour after his arrival from Cardiff on a four-year contract was confirmed. However, centre-back Stephen McManus stayed behind in order to complete his permanent transfer to Middlesbrough and Aiden McGeady will undergo a scan on a thigh injury today after the problem forced him to withdraw from the trip.

A busy summer of transfer negotiations at Parkhead, which has also seen full-backs Charlie Mulgrew and Cha Du-Ri sign on, is set to continue with a number of options being pursued. Reports claim Celtic are set to sign versatile Mexico international Efrain Juarez, 22, while veterans Sol Campbell and George Boateng remain possible signings.
