Boroughmuir swoop to sign up Sean Crombie

Boroughmuir have snapped up Sean Crombie for the forthcoming Premier One season after the hooker was released by Edinburgh.

The 23-year-old has been involved with the pro outfit for the last two seasons on a full-time deal, but failed to get much game time with Ross Ford and Andy Kelly blocking his path to the first team.

In season 2007/08 he was part of the Boroughmuir squad that lifted the Premier One title so is no stranger to Meggetland.

His arrival should offset the departure of Shaun McMurchy who is soon to return to his native New Zealand. Boroughmuir official Peter Blackhall said: "Sean was an outstanding player for us in his last stint with the club before turning pro with Edinburgh.

"He is currently playing rugby in South Africa and he brings a wealth of experience with him and a good professional ethic.

"The recruitment of Sean along with Ali Warnock and Ali Davidson provides us with a strong spine to our squad for the coming season which will be very competitive under the new league structure."

Kirkcaldy-born Crombie, an the under-21 and sevens cap, has always been highly thought of and he will be looking to kick-start his career at the Edinburgh club. As Blackhall mentioned, ex-Edinburgh stand-off Ali Warnock is returning to the club from Doncaster and second-row Ali Davidson, also a former Boroughmuir player, is back from Australia to add experience to the pack.

Meanwhile, former Currie centre Andy Muir has joined the club as strength and conditioning coach and last season's second XV coach Kevin Brown has moved to Stewart's Melville.
