Boroughmuir looking to Blaze a trail to the Scottish Cup Final

TEN-TIMES winners Boroughmuir Blaze will bid to reach the Scottish Basketball Cup final for the first time since 1982 when they host rivals Edinburgh Kings at Wester Hailes Education Centre tomorrow (2.45pm).

And Kings skipper Kevin Anderson believes Blaze pose a real threat to the league champions: "Cup games always bring out the best in people and especially, it seems, against us.

I'm looking forward to it."

The presence of Michael McGregor together with battling Matt McGuire and Gus Santana could pose a significant challenge to Kings. who still have only two Cup successes to their name, though they have featured in no fewer than 12 finals. The winners will meet either league runners-up Falkirk Fury or cup holders Troon Tornadoes who play their semi-final at the Mariner Sports Centre on Sunday.

Kings junior and cadet men's teams play Arbroath Musketeers in the semi-finals of the RAF Cup at Portobello tomorrow, sandwiched between the Edinburgh Kool Kats' cadette and junior ties with Glasgow City, the first of which tips off at 11am and the last at 5pm.

Finally, the two Scottish senior women's semi-finals are on Sunday, with holders Kool Kats at home to Polonia Phoenix at Portobello (12.30pm) and Midlothian Saints hosting the new league champions St Mirren at Lasswade (1pm).

PORTOBELLO High won the Girls' Open title for the 18th time in 20 years at the Scottish Schools Cup finals at the Kelvin Hall, beating Denny High, whose team included junior cap Marie Buchan, 84-50. Portobello's line-up included internationalists Annie Rowan, Rowan Bell and Becky Allison.
