Boroughmuir 19-23 Watsonians: Watsonians boost survival hopes

Watsonians snatched a vital victory over fellow strugglers Boroughmuir in yesterday's Scottish Hydro Premiership relegation battle, writes Colin Renton.

With only three minutes gone, temporary sub Bronson Ross ploughed over from close range and Graeme Blackhall added the conversion for the hosts.

Watsonians replied in kind when Max Learmonth sliced through the heart of the home defence before offloading to Harris Grant who forced his way over. Mike Ker's conversion squared matters.

A yellow card for Watsonians winger Ali Rowe handed the initiative back to the home side and they extracted full value from their numerical advantage when Shaun McMurchy dotted down.

That five point interval lead dwindled to two when Ker stroked over a penalty and the momentum swung Watsonians' way when he finished a sparkling move with a touchdown.

Boroughmuir snatched back the lead when Steven Ruddick dummied his way over and Blackhall added the two points.

A tight finale looked assured and the tension increased when home prop Justin Va'a was sin binned. The Glasgow pro had barely left the pitch when Jamie Blackwood fed Grant at a close-range ruck and the number 8 scored. Ker then added a late penalty to seal the win.

Glasgow Hawks 23 Edinburgh Accies 21

ACCIES suffered a fresh dose of relegation jitters as Ruaridh Bonner missed a last-gasp penalty at Old Anniesland. In a tense and entertaining encounter, Hawks were indebted to stand-in playmaker Andy White as they boosted their quest to finish in the top four.

White hit three penalties and converted Craig Gossman's two tries. David Rattray and Steve Wilson went over for Accies, with Gav Douglas slotting four goals.
