Boroughmuir 17 - 15 Ayr: ‘Muir edge tight thriller

BOROUGHMUIR won their third home match in as many weeks as they saw off Ayr at Meggetland in a thrilling encounter, writes Gary Heatly.

The match started at some pace and, within the first ten minutes, two tries were scored. The first came from Ayr’s AJ McFarlane after four minutes before Keith Buchan went over for a converted effort to put the hosts 7-5 up. Andy Wilson then missed a relatively simple penalty attempt for Ayr before Muir went further ahead through a Stevie Wilson try. In the 23rd minute Muir’s Redha Guedroudj was yellow carded and, two minutes later, Ayr’s second try arrived through Steven Manning. With the winger back on the pitch the hosts managed to extend their lead by half-time to 17-10, though, thanks to a Warnock penalty.

There was no shortage of effort in the second period but defences were on top and, as the game entered the final quarter, the score remained the same.
