Boroughmuir 15-43 Currie: Currie go into cruise control to leave Muir breathless

Currie ensured they remain in contention for a place in next season's British & Irish Cup by cruising to a convincing six-try victory over Boroughmuir.

Four first-half tries set the tone and took the edge off the recent disappointment of losing to Melrose in the Scottish Cup semi-final. By contrast, Boroughmuir can take little from this game to be confident of having a fighting chance in the other semi against Ayr still to be played this Saturday.

The home side barely touched the ball for the first ten minutes as Currie kept possession and stayed firmly camped inside their opponents' 22. The try was inevitable and came when lock Ryan Wilson picked up at the base of a ruck on the line and took the direct route up and over the pile of bodies to touch down on the other side. Boroughmuir had a brief spell of pressure, resulting in an Ally Warnock penalty but Currie then stretched away with tries from Ross Weston, Mark Cairns and Alastair Hamilton. In the second half, Boroughmuir kept plugging away and eventually got some return when replacement back Rob Cairns escaped some indifferent tackling to go round behind the posts for the try.

Currie then carried on from where they had left off with a try from a Alan Whittingham interception on the 22 and he ran three-quarters of the length of the pitch for a fifth try.

Boroughmuir winger Jordan Webster then produced his own interception and ran almost the same distance in the other direction to chip away at the deficit, but it was never going to be enough to knock Currie off their stride and minutes later standoff Matt Scott glided through to score under the posts to emphasise the visitors' dominance.
