Booth aiming for success on Asian Tour

WALLACE Booth’s bid to gain a foothold in the pro game has taken him to the Far East this week for stage one of the Asian Tour’s qualifying school in Thailand.

The Comrie rookie, who joined the paid ranks after last September’s Walker Cup, is one of three Scots competing in the 72-hole contest, which gets underway today at Majestic Creek, Kaeng Country Club and Rayong Country Club.

Booth will be joined in the 273-strong field by Glasgow’s former Scottish Amateur champion Barry Hume, who played on the Asian circuit in 2006 and 2007. Qatar-based Aberdonian Clarke Lutton makes up the small Scottish contingent in Thailand.

Meanwhile, David Law, the Scottish boys’ and men’s amateur champion, is set for his first taste of international competition in 2010 in the prestigious Jones Cup Invitational at Sea Island in Georgia. The Aberdeen teenager will travel to the US later this month for the 54-hole event which features some of the world’s leading amateurs.

Law’s fellow Scots, Ross Kellett, James White, Philip McLean and Steven McEwan, are also on the list of invited players.
