Bookies relieved at Scotland’s late win

SCOTLAND upset the odds with their victory over Australia yesterday morning and bookmakers were left toasting the last-second penalty winner from Greig Laidlaw as it saved them from hefty liabilities on a Wallabies win.

The Wallabies were red hot 1-8 favourites to win the game, with Scotland – who had lost seven in a row going into the game – the 11-2 outsiders to record their first away win over Australia since 1982. Paul Petrie of McBookie.com said: “After a disastrous Six Nations, we couldn’t give Scotland away in the match betting. It was a fantastic result.

“Some brave punters were rewarded by backing Scotland with a 14-point start, but, I doubt they were actually expecting a Scotland win.

However, as much as it was a great result we need to start winning games when it really matters.”
