Bonnyrigg coast into fourth round with minimum fuss

Bonnyrigg progressed to the fourth round of the Emirates Scottish Junior Cup with the minimum of fuss against a plucky but ultimately outclassed West Lothian side.

The home side had the tie won within half an hour playing a brand of football Pumpherston had no answer to. James Morrice started well with good use of the ball and David Caine created several chances with his strong running on the right.

Kevin McLeish opened the scoring in 13 minutes with a twice-taken penalty after Sean Grady was upended in the box. James Morrice doubled the lead with a brilliant strike from 25 yards two minutes later.

Bonnyrigg were in total control and had chances to increase their lead before Sean Grady fired home in 24 minutes. Grady then turned provider with a great cross to allow Ryan McCallum to fire home a fine fourth goal. Bonnyrigg continued to dominate for the remainder of the first half but could not add to their total.

Credit to Pumpherston for a brave second-half performance preventing the Super League side from increasing their advantage. Barry Wales went close and Colin Borthwick looked lively on the right but Bonnyrigg deservedly go through.
