Bobsleigh: Injury rules out former champ Cooke

EDINBURGH’S former world bobsleigh champion Gillian Cooke is out of this weekend’s World Cup round in Koenigssee, Germany, following an injury in last weekend’s event in Altenberg.

The former British international and Scottish champion long jumper, who teamed up with driver Nicola Minichiello to become Scotland’s first world champion in the sport but was then injured in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, returned this season as the pusher for driver Paula Walker after a spell trying to make it as a driver. She hurt her back in Altenberg when they overturned.

She hopes to be fit to compete in the World Championships in St Moritz beginning a week on Monday.
