Bathgate Thistle 5-1 Glenrothes: Lister to the four as Thistle go through

IN A fabulous Scottish Junior Cup fourth-round tie, Bathgate striker Jim Lister bagged four goals.

Lister described his side's, and his own performance, as "awesome".

"We hadn't played for seven weeks and we let loose on them," he said. "Everyone was up for the game and it showed with a great start."

Bathgate were three up in the opening ten minutes. First, Brian McColligan was brought down for a penalty after two minutes. Alex Lurinski dispatched the spot-kick with ease.

Only three minutes later and Lister began his rout.

He raced on to a Gary Fallon through ball, rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into the empty net from ten yards.

With ten minutes on the clock he added his second, rising to head home a Fallon free-kick.

The Bathgate supporters were brought back down to earth when Glenrothes pulled a goal back after 15 minutes.

John Martin turned inside from the right wing and unleashed a 25-yard dipping rocket which left Bathgate keeper Andy Carlin stranded.

Glenrothes started the second half in confident mood and had Bathgate under pressure for a spell. It didn't last long, though, as Lister completed his hat-trick in 55 minutes.

A McColligan corner was headed goalwards by Alan Neill, allowing Lister to swivel and drive the ball home from five yards.

Bathgate were comfortable and completed the scoring in the 78th minute when Lister rose once again to head, this time a Willie Wilson cross into the net at the near post.
