Basketball: Too close to call as Kings seek to tame Fury for title

Probably the biggest Scottish League basketball game in Scotland for some years takes place at Portobello High School tonight when Edinburgh Kings face close rivals Falkirk Fury in the last game of their regular season to decide the Scottish title.

The two have identical records, each having lost once, so it is a winner-takes-all clash which is sure to draw a capacity crowd to the tight Kings’ home court, tip-off 8pm.

Club officials have introduced admission charges for the first time for several years and are warning fans to get along early or risk being turned away.

The question of points difference, which had hung over the return clash after Fury had won the first game at Falkirk by 22 points last November, became irrelevant when Fury suffered what coach John Bunyan admitted was a “catastrophic one-point defeat” at home to Stirling Knights earlier this month.

The last time the league was decided in this way was in 2006, the only year Kings have not won the title since 2002 when they lost away to Troon Tornadoes at Ayr.

Although coach Bunyan claims that his team have got themselves back on track this season with 
back-to-back wins over Glasgow Storm and St Mirren last weekend, current form suggests Kings, who gained revenge for their earlier league defeat by knocking Fury out of the Scottish Cup at Portobello last month, may be just too hot.
