Basketball: Scots make a big impression

SCOTLAND grabbed two of the All-Star places, the Fair Play Award and the award for the Best Fans in the annual AS Cherbourg Junior International invitation basketball tournament in France.

Despite missing the last game as a precaution due to an injury niggle, Lee Reilly (Edinburgh Kings) was named in the All-Star Five as the Scots finished third overall with England down in sixth place. He was joined in the five by Falkirk Fury forward Ali Fraser.

Capital coach Doug Reilly's team, which also included Edinburgh Kings players Grant Mackay, Niall Mackle, Davie Rowan and Finlay Dover, finished ahead of the national teams of Portugal and Switzerland.

It meant the Scots had done better than last year, when they finished fifth.

"We're disappointed we didn't make the final but it was fabulous preparation for the Euro B Championship in Tel Aviv in July," said coach Reilly.
