Basketball: Rose Anderson hits Slovaks for six

Sole Scot Rose Anderson (Edinburgh Kool Kats) was on target as Britain shocked the Slovak Republic 70-63 in Kosice last night to post a 3-1 record in the Eurobasket Qualifiers and put themselves in line for next year's Eurobasket Finals in Poland.

They also reinforced their already strong claim for inclusion in the London 2012 Olympics. Anderson hit six straight points from the free-throw line as the Standard Life Team GB came from a ten-point first-quarter deficit to turn the tables on the team who beat them at the NIA, Birmingham, earlier this month and were favourites to top the group. Jo Leedham had a terrific game for GB scoring 26 points, including six from nine from three-point range. GB now face Germany in Liverpool on Thursday night with the men playing Bosnia afterwards as the second leg of a double-header.

GB men, meanwhile, slumped to a shock 75-56 defeat at the hands of Macedonia in the first of their return matches in their Eurobasket Qualifying groups.
