Basketball: Rocks put Sterling Davis in a hard place after double defeat

GLASGOW Rocks player-coach Sterling Davis has blasted his players for robbing him of any Christmas cheer after his side crashed to their biggest loss of the season.

Plymouth Raiders drubbed the Rocks 94-67 last night, 24 hours after the Kelvin Hall outfit lost 87-65 at Worcester. Davis suffered a double blow when he picked up a knee injury that could sideline him into the New Year. But the American was furious with his team’s lack of fight.

He said: “These were two bad performances. I was disappointed with the effort. And to add insult to injury, I messed up my knee and Mike Green got hurt as well. But I’m looking to our other starters to step up. There are guys who aren’t pulling their weight and that’s killing us.”

After an early stalemate, Plymouth raced 48-30 clear by half-time, going as much as 33 clear in the fourth quarter as the Rocks crumbled. Andrew Wedemire hit 19 to lead Glasgow, who were without injured skipper EJ Harrison.
