Basketball: Phoenix feeling confident

Four of the Edinburgh University women, as well as assistant coach Ali Mitchell, are in the Polonia Phoenix team who travel to Paisley tonight to play St Mirren in the Scottish League at the Lagoon Centre (8:15pm).

“It’s a must-win game for us,” says Mitchell. “But we’re feeling good and got to come out confident.”

League leaders Edinburgh Kool Kats have an equally big game at home to Glasgow Rocks at Portobello HS on Sunday (3pm).

Rocks showed by their gritty win over Polonia last weekend that they have recovered from the blip which saw them exit the Scottish Cup at the expense of Tayside Musketeers.

In addition, Kats have one or two injury worries: “Training has been going well and we’re difficult
to beat at Portobello,”
said Lauren Walker,
who has returned to her
international form in recent weeks.

Tayside host Pentland Star at Arbroath on Sunday where Star will be seeking only their second win of the season against the only team they have beaten.
