Basketball: Kings looking to unleash the Fury with talisman Anderson

Former Scotland shooting guard Kevin Anderson returns to the fray for Edinburgh Kings after an 18-month absence just in the nick of time for their top-of-the table basketball clash with Falkirk Fury at the Mariner Sports Centre, Falkirk, tonight (8pm).

Anderson, one of Kings' most influential players over the last decade during which he formed an almost telepathic understanding with Kings and Scotland point guard Laurie Costello (currently injured), has spent most of the last year in Canada, but he returned to Scotland just before Christmas and has already impressed in training.

Obviously short of match practice, Anderson would be an additional bonus if he could rediscover some of his magical three-point shooting.

But, with Kings starting point guard Gareth Lodge unavailable for tonight's game and young deputy Lee Reilly almost certainly back on the injury list, Anderson's presence on the bench could be crucial, especially if the team get into foul trouble against a big, confident Falkirk side coming off the back of a 102-48 home win over Dunfermline Reign last Friday.

Kings are unbeaten this season while Fury have lost twice, one of their defeats being to the champions at Portobello last October by 18 points.

Effectively Fury will need to win by more than that tonight and hope that another team do them the same sort of favour as Glasgow University already have done to Kings by upsetting Fury at the end of last year in Glasgow following their shock Scottish Cup win at the Mariner.

Edinburgh Kool Kats ended 2010 on a high by beating champions Glasgow Rocks and were frustrated that the weather put off their derby with Polonia Phoenix just before Christmas. Coach Graham Gunn's team will be looking to regain their momentum at home to St Mirren at Portobello tonight (8pm).
