Basketball: Jansson and Flockhart ones to watch in derby

Swedish centre Rob Jansson, who used to be a Kings stalwart, scored a season-high 24 points for Peregrines in their 85-70 loss to Falkirk Fury at Musselburgh last Friday and thrived on the extra space he was allowed alongside big Andy Saunders, the 7ft former Rocks player, who is back in Scotland after studying at the University of Coleraine and representing Northern Ireland universites against Scotland last year.

Probably marking Jansson will be Campbell Flockhart, now in his second spell with Kings after leaving to help set up Peregrines when they first entered the league and going on to represent Scotland in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Flockhart and Jansson are of similar height around the 6ft 7in mark and Kings will be anxious that Jansson does not enjoy the sort of free reign he had against Fury. But with Scotland centre Simon Flockhart still a doubtful starter due to the calf injury he sustained at national team training Kings coach Danny Costello will be looking to his namesake Campbell to step up especially in defence.

Adding spice to the occasion is the fact that Campbell's younger brother Grant Flockhart is still representing the Peregrines.

In the absence of Simon Flockhart, Latvian forward Edgars Rekis did an admirable job marking St Mirren's centre Nic Collins in last Saturday's clash at Portobello before Campbell Flockhart came on to take over the chore more than effectively.

But with another title beckoning and only five games to go Kings coach Danny Costello does not want any slip-ups, especially against a side who have never beaten Kings but who have the added incentive of also seeking their first win of the season after several desperately close near-misses.

Kings' nearest challengers Falkirk Fury meanwhile should stay in touch by beating Glasgow Storm at home tonight while Scottish Cup semi-finalists Troon Tornadoes entertain the team they ousted, St Mirren.
