Basketball: Gray wants more for Britain after three wins out of three

The 16-year-old took to the Darling Harbour courts in Sydney on Thursday with his Great Britain teammates in the men’s 3x3 basketball event looking to get off with a bang.

And Gray didn’t disappoint as Britain won all three of their opening matches against Indonesia, China and hosts Australia to have them well-placed heading into the latter stages.

The action comes thick and fast for City of Edinburgh Basketball Club member Gray as today sees him take on Australia again as well as New Zealand and a Combined Oceania team.

And, having made the perfect start to the Festival Down Under, the Edinburgh teenager is not about to let thoughts of defeat creep into his head.  “It couldn’t have gone any better for day one and we are all really happy,” said Gray, who was joined Down Under by Edinburgh clubmate Malcolm Winning.

“We put in a good effort, but still there is a lot ahead of us, so we need to put in the effort again and maintain our 100 per cent record.

“I definitely feel that we are learning and improving as we still haven’t played together as a team a lot and we are still new. Hopefully we can continue to improve and bring back the gold medal for Britain.”
