Basketball: Fans invited to check out new club Stirling Knights

No fewer than four additional basketball teams have entered the Scottish National League men's division for the coming season, a major boost for the sport.

One of them, a totally new club, Stirling Knights, will provide the opposition for Scottish champions Edinburgh Kings for their season opener at Portobello High School two weeks tomorrow.

The ambitious Knights had a resounding 107-71 win last week over Dunfermline Reign, another of the four who are returning to the national league after several seasons playing Lothian League.

Glasgow University and Glasgow Rocks' second team are the others who have brought the league strength back up ten.

The Knights are holding their official launch night at The Peak Sporting Village, Stirling tomorrow night (7.00pm) when they will play a challenge game against a Grampian All Stars team and have invited all basketball fans to come along. Chairman Derek Hargreaves said: "We've lined up a Family Fun night starting with a two, ten minute half development game to be followed by the senior men's challenge and in between games, the exciting Knight Fusion Cheerleading team and Mascots supplied by AMF Bowling will entertain the crowd and assist with our half-time competitions."
