Basketball: Edinburgh Kings coach warns players not to take Reign lightly

Struggling Dunfermline Reign visit Portobello High School tomorrow (1.00pm) for the first time since their return to the Scottish National Basketball League and can expect little mercy from an unbeaten Edinburgh Kings side hungry for their fifth title in a row.

But Kings coach Danny Costello, who welcomes back Lithuanian centre Audreas Ciapas and Aussie centre Lee "Chopper" Pettett after they missed their 112-50 away win over Glasgow University, has warned against any complacency: "If we stay focused in defence and don't go out with the attitude that 'we're top and they're bottom' we'll be fine."

Kings will be without Paddy Campbell and their top scorer in Glasgow, Michael Kirkpatrick, who also missed Edinburgh University's away game against Loughborough in the British Universities Northern Premier Division due to a heavy work load at the Vet College.

The Edinburgh students, also without American starting guard Rahul Misra, lost 88-79, but with Leeds losing again, the division is still very much up for grabs.

Edinburgh women made the trip to Birmingham to win easily 56-28 and stay joint top.

The students will divide into opposite sides for tonight's Scottish Women's League match between Polonia Phoenix and Edinburgh Kool Kats at Currie High School (7.30pm).

The Mitchell sisters, Ali and Cathy, provide much of the driving force for Polonia, who have veteran international centre Les Jackson back in their National League side to partner Julie Ritchie, who scored the crucial basket against Kats in their first encounter at Portobello.

Polonia have a second game this weekend at home to Grampian Flyers, again at new home Currie HS (2.00pm).

East Lothian Peregrines will be desperate to get back on the winning trail at home to Glasgow University at Musselburgh tonight (8.00pm). Glasgow have won three and lost three, while Peregrines, one off the bottom, have had just the one solitary success away.

Stirling Knights also play Troon Tornadoes at the Peak Centre tonight (8.00pm).

• The Glasgow Rocks' struggling second team, St Maurice's Rocks, have withdrawn from the women's league and all their results will be declared null and void.
