Basketball: Death or glory for Britain

Great BRITAIN'S men have been handed a "Group of Death" in the draw for the Eurobasket Finals in Lithuania later this year.

Coach Chris Finch's team will face the defending champions Spain, Turkey and hosts Lithuania, the last two being the second and third finishers respectively in last year's World Championships in Turkey, plus Poland and one of the additional qualifiers.

Faced with such daunting opposition, it will be an extremely tough test for the GB side to reach the later stages.

"You don't go into the Europeans or Worlds or Olympics and expect it to be easy," said GB captain Drew Sullivan. "You want to be tested individually and collectively and I honestly believe that if we have (Dunfermline's) Rob Archibald, Joel Freeland, Ben Gordon and Luol Deng, then we're capable of facing anybody."

"You want to play in that kind of atmosphere and I think we'll respond well to it," said Stirling's Kieran Achara, also in the GB squad.
