Basketball: Coach Sterling Davisdetermined to prove worth to Glasgow Rocks

GLASGOW Rocks coach Sterling Davis says victory in tonight's BBL play-off final would offer belated repayment of the faith the club's owners showed in appointing him.

The Kelvin Hall outfit face Everton Tigers at the National Indoor Arena in the climax to the domestic campaign.

Davis concedes he was a left-field choice to take on the demanding twin role of leading the team while continuing in a playing capacity three years ago. However, with the Rocks making steady improvements before their unexpected late push for honours, the Texan is primed to gain the validation he has sought from day one.

"The more challenging it's become, the more motivated I've felt," he said. I look at this job as a privilege. There are a lot of people who can't do it. I want to be one of those who can. The momentum for this match is huge."

Everton, beaten finalists last year, have motivation of their own. Last summer, their neighbouring football club withdrew its financial backing, leaving the Tigers close to the brink.

Having stabilised their fortunes, they too have saved their best until last.
