Basketball: Blaze hoping to bounce back against the Knights

The second round tie will now be played next Thursday night at Portobello HS with an 8:20pm tip-off.

But there is still plenty of cup action with Capital interest, notably at the Crags Sports Centre tomorrow where Boroughmuir Blaze host fellow national league side Stirling Knights.

Blaze will need to have a better team on call than went down 87-80 to Dunfermline Reign in the league last weekend if they are to progress for they were without eight players, plus coach Simon Turner, for their trip across the Forth.

Former Scottish cap Laurie Costello, who had gone along to watch but had not intended to play because of a groin strain, ended up suiting up and finished second top scorer with 19 points to  Tomas Cicenas (21).

Blaze will also need to keep their discipline better after picking up three technical fouls which probably cost them the match.

Reign, meanwhile, head for Langside College, Glasgow for an early start (10:45am) in their cup tie with the Glasgow Rocks, which is not the best time for fans or players.

But then Thursday night at Portobello is not exactly the best time to promote a match either, especially for a game which could have been a potential final between the 2011 winners, Kings, and the holders St Mirren. There were of course extenuating circumstances this time.

Falkirk Fury, one of the few clubs to attempt to promote fixtures and who will probably clash with the winners of Kings versus Saints at the semi-final stage, can hardly be relishing hosting Lothian League newcomers Gracemount Panthers in what could be a very one-sided contest tonight (8pm).
