Barry Ferguson to be Blackpool captain

FORMER Scotland and Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is expected to be appointed the new captain at Blackpool.

Ferguson, 33, moved to Blackpool last month in a 750,000 deal from Birmingham City.

He will replace fellow Scot Charlie Adam as captain at Bloomfield Road following his move to Liverpool.

Blackpool's assistant manager, Steve Thompson, said: "Barry's career stands up with anything we've got at Blackpool at the moment.

"He is a very influential figure on the pitch. He accepts the ball in most positions on the park and he doesn't give it away.

"He commands respect because of what he has done in his career and he has very high standards. Hopefully everyone here can live up to those standards.

"He is a good leader on and off the pitch and that will be important to us."

Blackpool, meanwhile, could be about to lose the services of striker DJ Campbell, with Queens Park Rangers lurking. Confirming that he is hoping to bring in some more players before the season starts, QPR manager Neil Warnock said: "Well, we're talking to a number of players.

"We're hoping to bring in two or maybe three players in the next week before the start of the season."
