Baikie worried Linlithgow tie will be frozen out again

LINLITHGOW manager Dave Baikie fears his side's Emirates Scottish Junior Cup clash with Ayr side Whitletts Victoria is likely to fall to the weather for a second time tomorrow.

But he's hoping an earlier decision than last week's postponement will prevent him from getting the runaround for the second Saturday running.

Baikie, who lives in Tayport, was just arriving in Linlithgow, where he was going to meet up with the players before making the journey down to Ayrshire, when he got a phone call to say the game was off.

"That was disappointing as there was supposed to be a 9am inspection that never materialised and that's why I had to get on the road down from Tayport," he said.

"Two supporters' buses had already left Linlithgow and they will have had to be paid for when it could have been avoided.

"We also missed out on the chance to play a friendly instead. Kinnoull had McDiarmid Park on the Saturday and I said to their manager, Scott Brown, that we'd play them if our game was off.

"When I heard on my way down from Tayport that the game was on, I phoned Scott to tell him and ten minutes later Murray McDowell, who is now the manager at Jeanfield Swifts, phoned me and, as a result, they ended up playing Kinnoull.

"When our game was called off, that was me snookered and we ended up training at the ground, though we did get a friendly against Dunipace on Monday night."

If the weather forecast is right, then Baikie believes there is little chance of it being second-time lucky as far as the match against Whitletts is concerned.

"It was to be minus three in Ayrshire on Thursday night and the same again on Friday night so it's not looking good," he added.

"We want the game to be on as we're certainly ready for it and we are okay team-wise, too."

In other scheduled fifth-round matches tomorrow, Lochee are at home to Maryhill and Hill of Beath entertain Shotts Bon Accord.
