Badminton: Susan Egelstaff wins sixth Scottish championship

BADMINTON: Susan Egelstaff claimed her sixth women's singles title with a straight games win over second-seed Linda Sloan at the Yonex Scottish National Championships at Bell's Sports Centre in Perth yesterday. "It's nice to keep racking them up," admitted the Glasgow 28-year-old after winning 21-15 21-18 in a 30-minute final.

It was third-time lucky for Kieran Merrilees in the men's singles when he beat Gordon Hoggan in the final, 21-19, 21-12. Sloan also had to settle for second best in the women's doubles when she lost a close final with Imogen Bankier to Jillie Cooper and Emma Mason, 15-21 22-20 21-15. In the men's doubles, Jamie Neill and Keith Turnbull beat Martin Campbell and Angus Gilmour 16-21, 21-18, 21-18. Bankier claimed her fifth mixed title with a new partner, Paul Van Rietvelde. They beat Campbell and Cooper 21-15 21-13.
