Badminton: Mason and Cooper aim for doubles glory

Edinburgh's Emma Mason and Jillie Cooper have both won the Yonex Scottish National women's doubles - but they aim to become champions together for a first time at Bell's Sports Centre in Perth this weekend.

A new partnership, Mason and Cooper have next year's 2012 Olympic Games as the main goal. This weekend they are the No.1 seeds ahead of Imogen Bankier and Linda Sloan. Bankier has twice won the title with Mason and once with Cooper.

In the mixed doubles, Bankier will be chasing a fifth victory in a row, and she also has a new partner in Longniddry teenager, Paul van Rietvelde. Rietvelde represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October and is recognised as a blossoming talent.

Cooper is the No.2 seed in the mixed with Edinburgh's Martin Campbell - and he was also No.2 seed in the men's doubles with Troon's Angus Gilmour. They will be aiming to topple the favourites, Jamie Neil and Keith Turnbull.

For Glasgow's Susan Egelstaff, the goal is a sixth women's singles title but she will face a chaalenge from both 17-year-old Kirsty Gilmour and No.2 seed, Linda Sloan, who has been the finalist for the past two years and showed great from at the end of last year.

Glasgow's Kieran Merrilees is the No.1 seed in the men's singles and is hoping to land the title for a first time. Dunfermline's Gordon Hoggan is the No.2 seed while Calum Menzies is the defending champion.
