Badminton: Lothian stars toast success

Edinburgh's Michael Campbell and the Haddington pair of Megan Richardson and Hannah Laing claimed titles at the Bank of Scotland Age Group badminton championships at Meadowbank.

Campbell and Patrick MacHugh (Kinross) justified their No.1 seeding with victory in the Under-23 men's doubles, beating Danny Leinster (Glasgow) and Steven Stewart (Bonhill) 21-17, 25-23 in the final.

In the Under-17s, Richardson and Laing took the girls' doubles against Rebekka Findlay (Erskine) and Heather Campbell (Glasgow) 21-9, 21-10.

Shona Whillans (Longniddry) and Gemma Wright (Edinburgh) lost 9-21, 17-21 to Holly Newall and Cara McCulloch in the final of the girls' doubles. Newall won all three titles in her age-group.

Matthew Carder (South Queensferry) lost 12-21, 13-21 to Gordon Hoggan in the Under-23 men's singles final.
