Badminton: Gilmour reaches third round in Berlin

SCOTLAND'S rising teenage star Kirsty Gilmour reached the third round of the German Junior Open in Berlin before going out to South Korea's Eun Byul Ko, one of the top eight seeds.

In the first round, the 16-year-old from Bothwell scored a fine 21-10 21-12 victory over Switzerland's Nadi Frankhauser and she followed up with a 22-20 21-11 win against the Czech Republic's Lucie Haviova.

The unseeded Scot then lost 14-21 16-21 to Byul Ko in a match lasting 23 minutes.
