Badminton: Carder wins Under-19 title

Top seed Matthew Carder (South Queensferry) came from behind to clinch the boys singles at the Bank of Scotland Under-19 Badminton Championship. Having lost the first game, he battled back to beat Lewis Gallacher (Kilmarnock) 15-21, 21-12, 21-12 at Meadowbank.

Carder then went on to score an upset with Rebekka Findlay (Erskine) in the mixed final. The No.?2 seeds beat favourites Patrick Machugh (Kinross) and Emma Cook (Mauchline) 15-21, 21-13, 21-13.

Two Edinburgh players - Michael Campbell and Julie Macpherson - had to settle for runners-up medals.

Campbell, playing with Craig Pollock, (Longniddry), lost the boys' Under-19 doubles 19-21, 21-19, 14-21 to top seeds Patrick Machugh (Kinross) and Craig Morrison (Motherwell).

Playing with Sarah Findlay (Erskine), Julie went down 8-21, 8-21 to the Motherwell Morrison twins - and sisters of Craig - Sophie and Hannah.

But Haddington's Hannah Laing and Megan Richardson beat Rebekka Findlay (Erskine) and singles' winner Fiona Archibald (Larkhall) 21-19, 17-21, 21-13 in the final of the Under-19 girls' doubles.
