Badminton: Campbell is ready to prove worth

Edinburgh's Martin Campbell and Troon's Angus Gilmour are the best young men's badminton doubles pairing in Britain - and they will be out to prove it today at the Bank of Scotland Scottish International Championships.

The two 20-year-olds take to the courts at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall as the No.2 seeds and they open their account against the English pair of Gary Fox and Neil White. If the seedings work out and they do reach Sunday's final, they should face another English duo of Peter Mills and Marcus Ellis.

Susan Egelstaff, the defending champion in women's singles, and Imogen Bankier, who partners Englishman Chris Adcock in the mixed, are other Scots tagged as second favourites.

In the women's doubles, Edinburgh's new combination of Emma Mason and Jillie Cooper will also be out to make a mark, while Longniddry's 19-year-old Paul van Rietvelde has a great opportunity to make a mark in the men's doubles with the vastly experienced Robert Blair, who is a former world championship medalist, as the No.6 seeded pairing.
