Badminton: Bankier in frame for medal spot

GLASGOW'S Imogen Bankier is just one win away from guaranteeing herself a medal at the Yonex BWF World Badminton Championships at Wembley Arena.

The 23-year-old Scot and mixed doubles partner Chris Adcock have been in fine form at the unofficial London 2012 test event, claiming the scalps of eighth seeds Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul of Thailand before coming from behind to see off Japan's 15th seeds Shintaro Ikeda and Reiko Shiota 17-21, 21-15, 21-16.

That has earned Bankier a quarter-final clash with fourth seeds Tao Jiaming and Tian Qing of China, and the Glaswegian says she is relishing the underdog tag.

"This is the first time I've got to the World Championships quarter-finals," she said.

"We've been looking at it one game at a time, but there is no reason why we can't pull another one out of the bag."

"At the back of your mind is the fact that win this match and you're into a medal match, win this and the worst you will get is a bronze.

"We'll keep going and see how far we can get."
