Ayr Gold Cup hero Jimmy close to return

AYR Gold Cup hero Jimmy Styles – ridden to glory by Frankie Dettori at the west coast course last September – is on course to make his seasonal debut in the next few weeks.

Trainer Clive Cox is eyeing either the Group 3 Weatherbys Ireland Greenland Stakes at the Curragh on Saturday week or a Listed event at Windsor for the six-year-old sprinter.

"One of those races will probably be the starting point for him for the season," said the Lambourn handler. "He's really come to himself now and he's done some very pleasing work through the last couple of weeks."

Cox is also looking to step Gilt Edge Girl up in class, possibly in the betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock on 22 May, following her victory in a Listed race at Bath last month. "She's a filly that has kept improving all the way," he said.
