Ayr 43 - 19 Stirling County: Ayr hold steady at league's summit

AYR maintained their top spot in Premier One with this six-tries-to-one demolition of a County side who were totally outgunned.

The match was somewhat disappointing and hard-to-please Ayr coach Kenny Murray is sure to be less than happy with a fairly mundane performance from his side, their showing not helped by being on the wrong end of the usual number of puzzling decisions from referee Cammy Rudkin.

Ayr were three tries up by the end of the first quarter, Mark Bennett, Jono Crossan and Richard McCallum going over, Ross Curle converting.

Brian Archibald had opened County's account with a penalty in ten minutes, adding two more in the second quarter to make it 21-9 at half time. Curle and Archibald exchanged penalties in the first 15 minutes of the second half, before Damien Kelly, Glen Tippett and Curle scored further tries for the home side, Curle converting the final two, before, in the final minute, County's adventure paid off with a Brian Archibald try which he converted.

Worryingly for Ayr's rivals, the home side were able to introduce Frazier Climo as a second-half substitute, he put Curle in for the final try and once match sharp, he'll be handy in the top eight games which will settle the destination of the title.
