Ayr 39 - 20 Dundee: Ayr breeze to victory as chase to retain Premier One title steps up a gear

AYR produced a dazzling late show to step up their quest to keep the Premier One crown.

The sloppy seasiders had trailed at the break – but brushed off the cobwebs to run riot in the last half-hour. They raced off to a bright start at blustery Millbrae, snatching a try through the carelessness of the Taysiders' back row in the seventh minute.

High secured their own scrum ball, but lost control in the danger zone, allowing Andy Dunlop to scoop it up and plunge over. Frazier Climo, returning from illness, slotted the conversion.

Dundee shook off the early setback to seize the initiative with a touchdown from hooker James Clark midway through the half.

No.8 Danny Levison inflicted the initial damage with a powerful charge down the middle. Greg Ryan acted as the link, creating the time and space for Clark to finish strongly.

Ryan was back in the spotlight to help set up their second score in the build up to the interval, Ross Lemon crossing the line.

The action was fast and furious, with Ayr levelling the contest eight minutes after the restart thanks to an easy Climo penalty.

Then came the dramatic finale, sparked by a brilliant try by Climo.

But the killer for Dundee was a two-score burst in two minutes featuring Ayr skipper Damien Kelly and Andy Wilson.

Their other two touchdowns were claimed by Jono Crossan and Grant Anderson as the High pack folded.

Ross Curle kicked the rest of the Ayr points, while Lemon and Barry Jones shared the rest of the Dundee tally.
