Athletics: Victorious Linet Masai sets course record

KENYA'S Linet Masai made a successful defence of the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k in Glasgow yesterday, setting a new course record in the process.

The current 10,000m IAAF world champion came home in 31 minutes and eight seconds, ahead of fellow Kenyans Sylvia Kibet and Grace Momanyi. The first Scottish athlete to finish was Lyn Wilson who recorded a highly respectable 35mins 8secs.

Colette Martin won the wheelchair race in a time of 42mins 32secs.

Glasgow Lord Provost Councillor Robert Winter said: "Everyone who took part today can take a real sense of pride in what they achieved. It is a unique occasion."
