Athletics: Team-mates set for Great South Run

Scotland Commonwealth Games team-mates Steph Twell (Aldershot) and Freya Murray (Edinburgh AC) will line up together again in the BUPA Great South Run 10 miles road race at Portsmouth tomorrow.

Twell took the bronze medal in the 1500 metres in Delhi and went on to finish fourth in the 5000 metres while Murray finished fifth in the 10,000 metres and seventh in the 5000 metres.

"It's my first ten miler," said Murray, the UK 5000 metres champion and Scottish cross country champion, who decided against the Scottish Cross Country Relay Championships at Cumbernauld today.

Another member of the Scotland team in Delhi, 1500 metres finalist Alastair Hay will make a late decision as to whether he will lead Central AC in defence of their men's title.

"I've picked up a bit of a cold," said Hay, who like Murray is the Scottish cross country champion.

Another Scot Andrew Lemoncello (Fife) is also contesting the Great South Run after being refused a visa to compete in the World Half Marathon Championships in China recently.

Lemoncello, who is based in Flagstaff, Arizona, was fourth in the Great Yorkshire 10k run last month.
