Athletics: Sharp takes early break

European Under-23 800m bronze medallist Lynsey Sharp (EAC) did not after all leave this week with the British team for the World University Games in Shenzhen.

The 20-year-old law student has decided to end her track season now and start her rest period early in order to give her the best possible build-up for the 2012 season.

"We'd always planned the European Under-23s as the high point of the season," explained her mother Carol.

Sharp's withdrawal leaves Kris Gauson (EAC) as the only Capital athlete in the team. Gauson goes in the 1500 metres when the track events begin next week.
