Athletics: School Championships

HUNDREDS of athletes from all over Scotland are taking part in the Scottish Schools Championships at Grangemouth today and tomorrow, writes SANDY SUTHERLAND.

Capital hopes include the versatile Alan Hamilton (George Watson's) in both long and high jumps in the 17-19 age group.

His Edinburgh AC clubmate, Tom Holligan, has high hopes in the sprints, boosted by his wind-assisted 10.86 seconds in last week's Edinburgh Schools Championships at Meadowbank, as does clubmate Kieran Kivlin (Portobello HS).

Meanwhile, the Scottish men's 4 x 100 metres relay team are competing as guests in a Poland v Germany international in Bydgoszcz this weekend.

Dunfermline's Scottish 100m champion Nick Smith leads the squad which also includes Stuart Benson, Pitreavie's Ryan Oswald, Craig Fleming and EAC 400m specialist Pat Swann. Their target time is 39.50.
